‘Mudra’s Calling’ features in prestigious China film festival

DIRECTOR Christina Kyi’s Mudra’s Calling has been selected by the China Film Association to be screened at the 28th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival from 19 to 23 November in Xiamen, Fujian Province of China.

During the screening period, the audience will vote on various aspects that will factor into the decisions for selecting the best foreign film, director, actor and actress. Mudra’s Calling enjoyed critical success across Myanmar and also won several awards abroad, including the Silver Palm Award at the Mexico International Film Festival 2017 and the Platinum Award at the International Student Newcomer Woman Film Festival (ISENMA) 2017.

Produced by Central Base Productions, the film stars actor Zenn Kyi, actresses Hla Yin Kyae and Nan Wai Wai Tun, and other talents in the action drama.

Originally established in 1981, the Golden Rooster Awards were combined with the Hundred Flowers Awards into a single national festival in 1992. The Golden Rooster is China’s highest professional award while the Hundred Flowers is given to the people’s top choice.

This is not the first time a Myanmar film has been selected for the festival. In 2010, actor Aung Thura won the best actor award for the film ‘Shadows of the Past’ at the 19th iteration of the film festival.
